Philidor Defense--The Gambit!

Although BlueEyedRook seemed to be humorously down on the Philidor Defense in my previous post, he was talking about the 'main lines' as far as I can tell; but here the excellent Michael Goeller and The Kenilworthian provide us with a couple of games where NM James West of New Jersey shows us how to have fun with the Philidor Counter-gambit.

Warning: Not for the faint of heart!

Going back to Morphy's use of it, it's been declared 'unsound' since about 1859; chess is a game, however, and not a scientific proof.
